Impression 11 make it to Young Enterprise Final

July 14, 2011

Impression 11, a company set up by students at Hull made it to the Young Enterprise Final which was held in Madrid this month.

The company are a web design and social media agency, founded by six Hull College Business Information Technology Foundation Degree students, all the students are now progressing to the Bsc Honours degree programme.

The Young Enterprise programme gives students the opportunity to set up and run their own ‘real’ business and to sell their products and services to the public. The programme provides a realistic introduction to the world of business and gives the participants an insight into the opportunities and pitfalls of running a company.

As part of the competition, Impression 11 had to submit an investment proposal including their financial strategy and policy as well as their potential investment options. The programme is sponsored and judged by Santander and is open to all colleges and universities across the UK.

Generally the companies created as part of the programme only run for the length of the competition, however, in this case, Impression 11 have decided to continue to trade and are hoping to become a limited company this summer.

Ethan Gibson, Managing Director of Impression 11, is excited about making it to this stage of the competition,

“It is wonderful to have made it to the final in Madrid and testament to the hardwork that myself and the whole team have put in. We decided on the concept of Impression 11 when examining the market and seeing that there was a significant gap around web design and social media. We hope to continue to grow the company and create a bright future.”

The students’ tutor, Rob Goodfellow, a Business and Computing lecturer at Hull College is understandably proud of their achievement,

“It is always fantastic when Hull College learners have this kind of success. It is a particular highlight that all members of the team have completed the same course, the Foundation Degree Business Information Technology; their success shows that the course empowers students for real world challenges.

Impression 11 has won several contracts with a number of public and private clients, utilising their recently acquired knowledge and skills in to a successful business venture which is capable of winning at national level! They now have their sights set on becoming a limited company.

We are so proud of them and their achievements.”
